This day celebrates those teams that consistently
work extraordinarily well together to produce significant results
for their companies or organizations.
Team leaders, members, and management “champions”
are encouraged to recognize exceptional team performance. Teams
are encouraged to submit your stories for a chance to win a
$200 gift certificate for the team to spend as they wish—on
dinner, a limo ride, concert tickets, etc. The team’s
organization will also receive a commemorative plaque and letter
notifying them of the honor.
So what is an extraordinary team? Just ask the
winners of last year’s entries. The Criminal Investigation
Bureau Project Team from the State of Missouri Department of
Revenue was our first recipient of the “Extraordinary
Work Team Award”. Although the decision was difficult—there
are some really GREAT teams out there—these are some of
the reasons this team stood out as Extraordinary:
- The team was chartered with a clear
goal in mind.
- The administrator and manager was involved
in chartering the team, gave unconditional support and then
got out of the way to let the team do great work. The team
kept them informed of their progress.
- They asked for volunteers and had a
great facilitator to keep them on track.
- The met frequently.
- They talked with their customers to
get their ideas and support.
- The team was truly cross-functional
– touching virtually every bureau in the Department.
- The team was open to new ideas and
willing to try just about anything that would help the team
accomplish the goal.
- The team adopted guidelines for successful
teamwork.
- The team was responsible for implementing
the recommendations.
- The team not only streamlined the process,
but also opened up the lines of communication between themselves
and other teams within the Department of Revenue.
